About Cystitis
Cystitis is defined as the inflammation of bladder. Mostly cause of cystitis is the urinary tract infection (UTI). These infections occur when bacteria enter the bladder or urethra and start to multiply. Cystitis may also occur when normal micro flora (beneficial micro organisms) of body gets imbalanced. It has been seen that women are more prone to cystitis.
Symptoms of Cystitis
- Frequent urge of urination.
- Burning sensation while urinating.
- Fever.
- Blood in urine (hematuria).
- Pain during sexual intercourse.
- Pressure on lower abdomen.
- Cloudy and strong smelling urine.
- Abdominal cramps.
Other symptoms - when bladder infection spreads up to kidneys, it may become the serious health issue. Symptoms include in the case of kidney infections are given below:
- Vomiting.
- Nausea.
- Chills.
- Back or side pain.
Causes of Cystitis
- Bacterial cystitis - Bacteria are the most common cause of cystitis. Cystitis is a Urinary tract infection, occurs when bacteria through urethra enter the urinary tract and start multiply. Mostly cystitis is caused by bacteria Escherichia coli. Urinary bladder infections occur in the female as a result of sexual intercourse. But infection can also occur in the sexually inactive girls and women because female genital area harbors bacteria which lead to cystitis.
- Certain medications - Use of certain medications like chemotherapy drugs may also cause inflammation of bladder.
- Radiation cystitis - Radiation treatment of pelvic area may also results in the inflammation of bladder.
- Unhygienic conditions are also responsible for cystitis.
Cause of Cystitis in Ayurveda
According to Ayurveda, urine elimination is the role of apan vayu. So the disruption in apan vayu results in urination problems. There is a similar disease described in Ayurveda named as Mootrakruchha which has the various types.
Vataj mootrakruchha which is the result of imbalance of vata dosha and leads to intense pain in pelvic region and difficulty in urination.
Pittaj mootrakruchha is result of imbalance of pitta dosha which causes frequent, burning sensation along reddish and yellowish urine.
Kaphaj mootrakruchha is due to the imbalance of kapha dosha which is responsible for the inflammation in pelvic region.
Sannipatik mootrakruchha is result of imbalance of all three doshas that is vata, pitta and kapha.
